THE JOURNEY: FROM KOLWEZI TO THE GLOBAL STAGE
Roots and Heritage
Born in Kolwezi in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Mapumba’s musical DNA was shaped by his mother, Ndaya Thérèse Tshilombo. A vibrant storyteller, she passed down traditional folk tales and moral wisdom that became the foundation of Mapumba’s passion for singing. These ancestral voices and lessons of community remain a core part of his work, preserving a deep, cultural authenticity in everything he produces.
Artistic Evolution
Mapumba’s journey took him from the DRC to Zambia and eventually to South Africa in 2000. Today, his versatility allows him to take audiences on a dynamic journey—from intimate, multilingual acoustic storytelling to high-energy, premium Afro-Indie Soul mainstage showcases. Described as a masterful blend of African acoustic tradition and cosmopolitan soul, his commanding stage presence creates an unforgettable, executive-grade experience.
Legacy & Collaboration
Mapumba has delivered elite performances for global platforms, including the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and Nelson Mandela’s Birthday Gala, as well as performing for Bill Clinton. He has shared the stage with icons such as Miriam Makeba, Oliver Mtukudzi, Youssou N’Dour, and and a wide range of other Afropop and indie artists. As a composer, his work is featured on international Putumayo World Music compilations, he has written for multi-award winners like Judith Sephuma, and he has composed bespoke audio for major international brands.
